An open data toronto like event! Ontario!
If you are in Toronto, please introduce yourself to the list. It would be nice to know who you are and what you are up to! Also open data ottawa has something planned on feb. 7, a pub crawl which might be fun - https://opendatapub-es2.eventbrite.com/# ! On Tue, Jan 29, 2013 at 7:27 PM, Karl Dubost <[hidden email]> wrote:

Tracey,
I must be thick this morning :) Le 29 janv. 2013 à 19:36, Tracey P. Lauriault a écrit : > An open data toronto like event! Ontario! > > If you are in Toronto, please introduce yourself to the list. It would be nice to know who you are and what you are up to! So you are saying, you are in the process of organizing an event, but there is no date and venue yet. And you are asking for people who could help? -- Karl Dubost Montréal, QC, Canada http://www.la-grange.net/karl/ |
Yes, this is all rather opaque and risks requiring everyone to opt in and clog up the list. Would not be simpler to state the event and ask people to email you directly?

O - surprises! :)
My guess is that Tracey is helping to put something together and she's inviting any lurkers doing interesting things to uncloak so she can suggest them as speakers. Or somesuch. Actually friends in Toronto are putting something together and are looking for people in Toronto to join them, but since they did not advertise it yet, I felt obliged to be a little opaque and on steal their thunder!
Shesh! Sorry, it all seems so clear! On Wed, Jan 30, 2013 at 8:46 AM, Michael Lenczner <[hidden email]> wrote: O - surprises! :) -- Tracey P. Lauriault

Sorry for the confusion!
We've got a team organizing an event in Toronto for Open Data Day, on February 23rd. We'd like to start the day with some presentations: for inspiration and context, and to spark conversations. If you'd like to contribute -- or know someone who might -- please get in touch! (I'll contact those who've already replied.) I'm also happy to answer questions, and appreciate suggestions & advice. I'm including a blurb below on what we're planning; if you have other ideas, we're open to them...
Gabe
This year, ODD Toronto will be held at the Centre for Social Innovation's newest location in Regent Park, and will feature:
We need your help! We're looking for:
A) Case study presenters.
5-15 minute case studies detailing the story of a data project (open data or not), including some or all of: identifying the need, building the team, finding and managing the data, delivering the project, and measuring outcomes. These can be your own projects, or ones you're simply familiar with.
B) Speed data-ers.
Public sector employees who own/manage government datasets. Outside users of open data rarely have the opportunity to meet those who are responsible for creating or maintaining the datasets. We believe that by providing this opportunity, both sides can benefit.
C) Workshop leaders.
30-minute intro-level workshops that would appeal to the data-curious -- open data or data in general. These can be focused around a tool, a dataset, or a context. The format is wide open.
D) Lightning Talk presenters.
Fast-faced 5-minute presentations (in-person or via Skype) on any topic related to open data, civic data in general, or the potential outcomes. It could be about a project you like, a community need that's unmet, an app you built, a service you provide, or just a helpful perspective.
E) Sponsors.
We'd like to offer coffee, snacks, lunch, and wine and beer at the end of the day.
We'd like to nail down the schedule for the case studies, speed data-ers and workshops by February 12th, so please let us know as soon as possible if you'll be able to help out!
