Thanks!
I've tweaked the visualization a little bit for improved layout. If anyone has any datasets they would like in this form (only some data is amenable to this treatment) , let me know and we can work on getting them out this way. Preferably Canadian data, but we can talk... :-) cheers, glen :-) On Fri, Oct 26, 2012 at 1:14 AM, David Eaves <[hidden email]> wrote: > Glen - this is really cool stuff! > > Nice Work! > > On 2012-10-25, at 8:13 PM, Glen Newton wrote: > >> http://zzzoot.blogspot.ca/2012/10/visualizing-canadian-energy-flows-with.html >> >> -Glen Newton >> _______________________________________________ >> CivicAccess-discuss mailing list >> [hidden email] >> http://lists.pwd.ca/mailman/listinfo/civicaccess-discuss > > _______________________________________________ > CivicAccess-discuss mailing list > [hidden email] > http://lists.pwd.ca/mailman/listinfo/civicaccess-discuss -- - http://zzzoot.blogspot.com/ - |
What about contracts from the city of Montréal and the city of Laval to companies? I don't know if the data has sub-contractor info, but if it did, that would be cool, to see the flow of contracts and money from company to company.
All the data is found on the Gazette Documents site and it is on the québecouvert blog in SQl format. Let me know what you think. You coming to Hacking Corruption? On 2012-10-26, at 8:12 AM, Glen Newton wrote:

Another idea came to mind and it would be to do a version by burrough (arondissement) as there have been cases of mayors giving out contracts to local companies etc. Let mek now if anything is missing. James built this dataset, so direct tech questions to him. I know a lot of the data still is missing meta-data wrt if it is a new contract or an add-on. We are thinking of a crowdsourcing tool to tackle that task, but we have not made much progress. On 2012-10-26, at 9:02 AM, Glen Newton wrote:

Unless I am mistaken, it will take some work to figure out the money flows....

This seems to have attracted some interest: just did an email
interview with a journalist from The Economist.... -glen On Thu, Oct 25, 2012 at 11:13 PM, Glen Newton <[hidden email]> wrote: > http://zzzoot.blogspot.ca/2012/10/visualizing-canadian-energy-flows-with.html > > -Glen Newton -- - http://zzzoot.blogspot.com/ - |

Really cool!!! I see that the data is also available on a province
basis. Do you think you could run the same thing for some provinces (like Alberta and Québec for example) Steph Le 12-10-25 23:13, Glen Newton a écrit : > http://zzzoot.blogspot.ca/2012/10/visualizing-canadian-energy-flows-with.html > > -Glen Newton > _______________________________________________ > CivicAccess-discuss mailing list > [hidden email] > http://lists.pwd.ca/mailman/listinfo/civicaccess-discuss > |
Yes, I am just doing a post now for Alberta (from a different source however).
I am going to do Quebec and some other provinces over the weekend... -glen :-) On Fri, Oct 26, 2012 at 11:34 AM, Stéphane Guidoin <[hidden email]> wrote: > Really cool!!!
