For the Telecon geeks - 1906 maps of Telephone and Telegraph lines in Canada

Tracey P. Lauriault

here are the list of maps for telephones and telegraph lins:

It is always fun to look at these with the rail and other transportation maps:

The online version of the atlas is incomplete, the maps are in a different order than the paper version, and I think the maps are easier to read in paper form.  Also, the online version does not include the 43 plates of graphs and charts.  For the uber telecon geeks, go to a Library near your, to see the following Graphs in the paper version:

Plate 45 - Telegrahs - Mileage; Messages sent
Plate 74 - Marine - Light stations; Tonnage and number of Vessels entered inwards and outwards, 1903
Plate 79 - Railways - Capital; Passengers; Freight; Mileage
Plate 80 - Railways - Earnings; Expenses; Proportion of expenses to receipts; Receipts; 1903; Expenditures, 1903
Plate 81 - Railways - Train Mileage; Rolling stock; Principal items of Freight; Passengers per capita, tons
Plate 82 - Government Railways - Expenditure and Revenue; Earnings and Expenses; Intercolonial Railway (a) operating expenses (b) Proportion of Passenger, freight and other receipts.

I sent it go you gosling folks, a) because the Online Altas is primarity built using open architecture and specifications and standards.  and b) because I know a bunch of you fellows love trains and telecon!

Have a great weekend

Cost/Benefits of Open-Data

Jonathan Brun-2
Hi,

Montreal Ouvert is trying to compile a list of cost-benefit studies on open-data initiatives.

Unless this list exists somewhere else, we are going to try and compile our own. It is totally open to everyone and we hope you will contribute studies you know about. To add to our list go to:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Ag-udG4NicuCdGtiOElCeEJjUlU2TFBsMEJKcDZEZlE&hl=en&authkey=CKuhk_oB

Thanks so much!

Hi Tracey,

My email was broken all week, you might need to add me back to the mailing list.

Thanks and sorry for the trouble,
