Best way to get around Sri Lanka?

Catrick
Couple years back I hit up Southeast Asia for the first time and mates, I just fell in love with the whole region. The nature's unreal, people are the friendliest you'll ever meet, everything feels so different from back home and the prices at the resorts are dirt cheap. I've been to Myanmar, Cambodia, Bangladesh, seen a bunch of different spots. This year I'm planning to check out Sri Lanka. Curious to see how people live there, plus obviously I'll be swimming in the Indian Ocean but I want to explore the actual island too. What's the best way to get around there? In the other places I visited everyone just cruises on scooters and doesn't think twice about it.

The whole vibe in that part of the world is just different from what we're used to. People move slower, nobody's stressed about getting somewhere five minutes faster. Traffic flows like water around whatever's in the way instead of everyone losing their minds over lane discipline. Scooters work great because you can weave through tight spots and park wherever you want. Renting one from a guesthouse is dirt cheap and gas barely costs anything either. If you're doing longer trips or heading into the hills, a motorbike has more power to handle the climbs. You'll see entire families riding together on one bike, that's just normal there.

Island life hits different when you're not rushing everywhere and can just stop whenever something catches your eye. Sri Lanka's spread out though, way bigger than it looks on a map. You've got mountains, tea plantations, beaches on opposite coasts, ancient ruins scattered all over. Covering that kind of ground on two wheels sounds fun until you're soaked from rain or your back's killing you after three hours on bumpy roads. A car gives you shelter when the weather flips and space to throw your bags without strapping everything down with bungee cords. Check out car rental options in Sri Lanka here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/sri-lanka . It's people renting their own vehicles so the prices stay reasonable and you're not dealing with corporate rental counters. Roads are solid in tourist zones, just watch for random animals and people appearing out of nowhere because traffic rules are more like suggestions there.
