Dear Tracey P., Tomorrow, Bill C-626, a bill to amend the Statistics Canada Act in order to reinstate the long-form census and expand the authority of the Chief Statistician of Canada goes to vote. Our decision-makers will be voting on the future of smart decision-making in Canada. Thanks to you, me, and the other near 7,000 individuals who already sent letters to their MP, this issue has been recieving a lot of media attention this past week. Here are a few pieces that have done an outstanding job outlining what is at stake here and why Canada needs better data: - Why Canada should reinstate long-form census: Scharper (Toronto Star) - For Competitiveness' Sake, Restore the Canadian Census (Huffington Post Canada) - Metro Morning: Long-form census (CBC) - Damage from cancelled census as bad as feared, researchers say (Globe and Mail) I urge you to share these pieces with your network before the Bill goes to vote tomorrow. Please join us in this final push to support Bill C-626 and our pursuit of a healthier, safer, and more prosperous Canada by sharing news of why Canadians deserve better statistics and contacting your MP. You can also join the #ItMakesCensus conversation on Facebook and Twitter as well. Thanks for standing up for smart decision-making! Katie Gibbs | |||||||||
