i am a mobile phone nonuser as well, but basically:
-a mobile device (phone, palm, blackberry) can be used to access the
internet and transfer data, just as your computer does (photos,
databases, audio, etc).
-in some (most?) countries, that data transfer is inexpensive
($40-100) for 500 MB of data
-in canada, that data transfer is excruciatingly expensive ($300-1600)
so basically any application that involves transfering data onto a
handheld device through wireless networks is crazy expensive here, so
that businesses, individuals, and non-profits are essentially barred
from developing & using innovative applications of this tech. (such
as, say, political info & photos & speeches of the candidates
delivered to your mobile device as you wait in line, deciding how to
vote....)
corrections welcome if i misstated this.
