Michael Lenczner
hello,

I know that we're going to discuss some more concrete stuff at the
civicaccess meetup that tracey is organizing in mtl.  I just wanted to
say that I'm trying to find shorten up my todo list so that I can
tackle a montreal civic access project around getting some
environmental data in a proper format from the municipality.  Of
course, i will blog all of it.

In terms of momentum + public facing stuff, i've resisted us setting
up a blog until it's clear that we can really sustain it, but I was
thinking that an planet aggregator might be a good idea.  It could
also repost delicious items.

http://www.planetplanet.org/ (planet takes information (via RSS) from
different people's blogs and republishes them on one webpage.  Often
it is set up for a group and it will only collect certain entries.
for an example, check out http://planet.seattlewireless.net/ for an
planet aggregation from blogs of volunteers involved with the
community wireless group Seattle Wireless)

http://del.icio.us is a way to share bookmarks.

The nice thing about having this style of aggregator is that the bar
is low in terms of frequent updating and writing style.  It is not an
"official" blog, it's more of a way for volunteers to communicate with
each other and for external people to get a unofficial sense of what's
going on.

I'll bring it up at the meetup - but any comments here are welcome.

I've also been in correspondance with cory from howdtheyvote.ca about
getting rss feeds for our community wireless group - Ile Sans Fil
.org.  And we're working hard on making our portal pages places to let
users know about civic info from the three levels of government.
Hopefully we'll have some more info on that soon.

I'm sharing offices with Apathy is Boring
(http://www.apathyisboring.ca) which is an org which promotes youth
engagement in the democratic process through art + technology.  I've
been talking up civicaccess to them and we hope to get something done
on the fall.

This is going to be a long-term project.  It will take us years to
make a real impact.  But I know that many of us are in this for the
long haul :-)

hope that everyone's enjoying summer.
