ottawa hackfest

Michael Lenczner
That was a really great event! I've been to a lot of these types of
things and this one was wonderful.  Everyone I spoke too was impressed
as well.  Good organization, actual time to hack without too much
speech-making and a lot of involved, motivated participants.  Free
t-shirts didn't hurt either. ;)

It was also great news to find out that Shawn's open-sourcing (has
open-sourced?) RepresentMe.ca (http://representme.ca/).

Agreed. I had an amazing time meeting with everyone and geeking-out over open data, visualization and politics. Thanks to everyone who came out.

In light of all the interest that I've received in RepresentMe, I'm looking into expanding it to cities across Canada to help provide better access to municipal government data. I'd like to find one or two mid-sized cities to do a pilot project which would help me develop a re-usable framework that could be applied by any city across Canada. My background is in computer programming and web development so I'd appreciate any pointers from the folks on this list about how to fund and promote a project like this.

The source code for RepresentMe is currently available from my Github account. I'll be committing the latest version in the next couple of day. There will be a BSD license which allows anyone to use the code for commercial purposes if they choose.
