Interesting. Even campus police here at the U of T are afraid of sharing
their data with researchers. They feel the PHP generated image maps
http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/statistics/stats.php that they share with
the Toronto Police Services are enough.
I remember talking a few years ago with SpotCrime to find out if there
was a way of getting their data, even purchasing it. They simply asked
that the campus police share their data with them and they would give
us, including campus police, access to most everything they had in their
database, but the police refused.
One really has to wonder what they think crime researchers would do with
the data? Ungodly analyses I'm sure. Wrong and terribly dangerous
analyses that would lead to more crime!
