Today OpenNorth announced the first series of international and Canadian open data leaders who will be speaking at the Canadian Open Data Summit in Ottawa on May 25.
There's plenty more where that came from.
We need the help of all civicaccess list subscribers. Here's what you can do:
1. Buy your ticket now. If you haven't taken advantage of early-bird registration ticket prices, you have until March 13 to do so. Tickets for nonprofits and individuals are currently only $75, and those for government and corporations are $125. If you intend to come, we encourage you to purchase yout ticket today (
here).
2. Spread the word. Open data has is a growing community, as you know. If you support open data, we urge you to tell your colleagues, friends, and fellow open data supporters in your community about the Canadian Open Data Summit. We need a diverse audience to tackle the challenges that the Canadian open data communities faces. The more often someone hears about the event, the better. And if it comes from someone they know, even better. Please spread the word via your local mailing lists, meetup pages, on your personal or organisation's blog, etc.
3. Follow-us on Twitter (@opennorth). We're intensifying our promotion efforts. Expect blog posts from our team and some of our partners describing why this event matters. Expect more announcements like today's. The speakers list is top notch. We'll also be announcing travel grants for students and Canadian open data leaders thanks to generous support of the McConnell Foundation and Community Foundations Canada.
4. Propose a Canadian Open Data Award winner. Details can be found
here. Who deserves this prize? This is an opportunity to elevate the profile of that tireless champion in your city, a new start-up or a local open data project striving to make your community better. Winning the award is obviously great, being nominated also matters.

May 25 kicks off an unprecedented and exciting week of open data events and meetings in Ottawa.
The International Open Data Conference is happening on May 28-29. There will be an international open data unconference on May 26. And other events on May 27. Let's make sure that the Canadian open data community shows up on May 25. The eyes of the international open data community converging in Ottawa will be looking.
