Web Presence for civicaccess

Tracey P. Lauriault-2
Hey gang;

Seems like folks on the list do not have any particular attachment or
relationship to the wiki.  That is fine, however, we do need some sort
of public face.

For example, i was approached today by a not so tech savvy national
organization that can do some advocacy on behalf of community groups who
want access to census data.  There is a real place here for members of
civicaccess to work with this group to help them formulate a campaign
that speaks to their needs and their communities.  It is however
difficult for them to embrace civicaccess as the only public face we
have at the moment is a hacked wiki and this list.

I would luv to have and esthetically pleasing collaborative public web
presence for civicaccess that will entice people to want to join us,
that will inform people about what we do, a place we can send
journalists to, and a place for us to showcase work that is ongoing.
Also, these was alot of hours of good research put into the content of
the wiki that i think the public can benefit from and I personally would
luv help to retrieve it.

   1. I would luv to work with a couple of people to give us a web presence.
   2. I would luv to retrieve the content from the list
   3. I would luv to hear your ideas

Cheers
Tracey

I agree. Personally I don't see that most people are all that enthusiastic about wikis, and they do seem to attract more vandals than ordinary sites.

Multiple issues in one paragraph confuse me. It's clear enough that civicaccess as a group won't impress people by getting hacked, but the needs of that national organization aren't clear at all. If what they need is tech-savvy help with accessing census data, that's a job for somebody else; is what they need is advice on an *advocacy campaign* for access, it's just conceivable I could be of some assistance. (Of course, if they're a real national organization with a budget, rather than a loose gathering of stony-broke activists, it would be nice if they were prepared to pay a little something for the actual work.)

You can count me in for some writing, copyediting, and even some basic HTML if no better-qualified coder wanted to do that. My availability is highly variable but I can usually find a few hours for a good cause.

If you really mean the list rather than the wiki, I've got about a MB of archived digests. They're not complete: I tend to delete requotes and footers as I whip through them, and I may have deleted a couple. Anyway, let me know if you want them.

Having had an excessively frustrating day, I don't really have any at this point -- except to keep the site simple, with all pages accessible and quick to load and any fancy Flash stuff purely optional.

I'll look forward to hearing from the rest of you.

Regards,

Judyth
