Voter Activation Network - Where are the canucks?

Tracey P. Lauriault
The liberal "party can move ahead with plans to build a central database using a so-called software “skin” called VAN – for Voter Activation Network – developed by a Massachusetts company and used with great success by the Obama campaign for the U.S. presidency."

Are there really no Canadians building stuff like this?

Liberals import Obama software for election preparations

Oh there are -- and they work for the Conservative Party! The Conservative have some very smart programmers, database designers, and coders on their payroll. I know a few of them. The NDP, too, does a relatively sophisticated job of using database tools to track their voters, donors and volunteers. For too long, the Liberals didn't think they needed this stuff and are now finding that they have to rapidly catch up -- hence the decision to buy someone else's stuff. And the Conservatives and NDP were hardly going to sell them the applications they've adapted for Canadian use!
