It's time to start mapping!

Thank you for subscribing to our distribution list!

We have officially launched the crowdsourcing campaign for the pilot project “Mapping your community through crowdsourcing.”

Using your knowledge of your neighbourhood in the Ottawa-Gatineau region, along with an online mapping tool called OpenStreetMap, you and other members of the public will be able to input the location, physical attributes and other features of local buildings.

You can

• visit the map editor application and start mapping
• select buildings and provide information by filling out the form on the map editor application
• place a marker if you know about a shop, service or business at a specific location, and fill out as much of the form as you can
• map your own business.

Please note that this is a pilot project developed in collaboration with a community of stakeholders. As such, the open source application is in a testing phase and may not fulfil all of the users' needs with regards to accessibility. In the event of difficulties using the Web pages or applications, send us an email at [hidden email].

When you are ready, click one of the following to start:

À ce titre, l’application de source ouverte est en phase d’essai et il est possible qu’elle ne réponde pas aux besoins de tous les utilisateurs relativement à l’accessibilité. Hello!

Speaking of which: as part of my work at the city of  Montréal, I'm trying to identify already existing groups of "mappers" active on the territory of Montréal. Until now, we have started to communicate with the local OSM community as well as the Waze community.

The first thing we would like to identify is how to make it easier for these groups of mapper changes on important features of our territory (road network at first). Other potential collaborations could be found along the way.

So please, let me know if you know other (ideally organized) groups of mappers besides OSM and Waze.
