That is interesting. I think astronomy has been one of the first fields to bridge the gap between the professional and the dedicated amateur -- a pro-am collaboration as it is called. I am not sure if that has been successfully done in other fields.

Here in Montreal, you can't throw a rock without hitting a living lab.
I know of three. And know of at least one other in Van. I imagine that Toronto has them too.
