I'm wondering if there are others that are interested in sharing election related data? Previous elections I offered a tool on digitalcopyright.ca which would allow people to write their candidates. There may be other sites wanting to do the same thing, so being able to share email and website data on candidates would be great. I just load the candidate names and parties/etc from the Elections Canada csv file they provided in the past, and will likely (hopefully?) do this year as well. I'm wanting to fill in data like I had last election at http://www.digital-copyright.ca/election2006/candidates -- Russell McOrmond, Internet Consultant: <http://www.flora.ca/> Please help us tell the Canadian Parliament to protect our property rights as owners of Information Technology. I too, would like this data. I would like to feed it into a rebranded, Canadian version of the Change Congress website (which in theory ought to be open source, since it's partially funded by the Sunlight Foundation) to support VisibleGovernment.ca's transparency campaign pledges.
It seems Elections Canada is caught without data, too. If you look at the 'who are my candidates' section for Montreal Ville Marie, it says there are none registered. This is untrue, as I see signs for Marc Garneau as I walk down the street. http://www.elections.ca/scripts/pss/InfovoteMain.aspx?L=e&ED=24075&EV=31&EV_TYPE=1&PC=&Prov=QC&ProvID=24&MapID=&QID=-1&PageID=21&TPageID= Amazing. Russell,
I'm sure lots of people would find that extremely useful, especially given the nature of the current election campaign and the number of issues that will likely fall through the cracks without citizen action. I'll do what I can to get the word out if you do set it up. I am off-line much of the time these days: please phone if you need me urgently, and bear with me if less urgent matters take a while to resolve. ################################## Judyth Mermelstein "cogito ergo lego ergo cogito..."
