Re: Region of Peel Ontario Open Data Pilot

Glen Newton
There appears to be no license for the 'open' data.

There is a general terms of use for the site:
https://www.peelregion.ca/privacy/index.htm
  Copyright section: https://www.peelregion.ca/privacy/disclaimer.htm#sharing
"All information on this website is protected by copyright. You may
not modify, copy, distribute, reproduce, or publish content or an
image on our site, in whole or in part, unless we give you written
permission. "

You cannot reuse the data on a web site or mashup without explicit
written permission:
"If there is an image or section of content on our website that you
would like to copy, redistribute, reproduce or republish, please
e-mail our Web Master. Be sure to provide as much detail as possible
about how you intend to use the content or image. "

So this is not an open data site.
This is a data release initiative.

Thanks,
Glen

Re: Region of Peel Ontario Open Data Pilot

Glen Newton
I used their feedback form to communicate these issues and offered to
help them put together a real Open Data license for their initiative.

I will update the list when/if I hear from them.

If anyone else wants to help (if Peel is interested) just let me know. :-)

Re: Region of Peel Ontario Open Data Pilot

James McKinney-2
The (new) Toronto license is worth emulating http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/open_data/open_data_fact_sheet_details?vgnextoid=59986aa8cc819210VgnVCM10000067d60f89RCRD

Most cities have just copied the Vancouver license. The members of the G4 (Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, Ottawa) will be adopting something close (if not identical) to that license.

"that license" as in the latest Toronto license.

Re: Region of Peel Ontario Open Data Pilot

Glen Newton
I got a response from Peel.

Their license is here: http://opendata.peelregion.ca/terms-of-use.aspx
It is s good license.  :-)

I suggested they make the link to the license more prominent, as I was
not able to find a link to the license on their pages....
