Some of you may have heard about Canada's commitment to require the
mandatory disclosure of payments to governments both in Canada and abroad by Canadian mining oil and gas companies. Recently, the Canadian government, led by NRCAN. concluded a round of consultations that included written submissions. This consultation process involved the treasury board as they are going to be proposing to include mandatory payment reporting as an action plan commitment in Canada's Action Plan 2.0. Unfortunately of the 46 written submissions, only 8 have been made public. Which is disappointing and which we believe contravenes the spirit and guidelines of the OGP. Interestingly, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers is not really opposing the disclosure of payments to foreign countries, but does not want to disclose payments to sub-federal jurisdictions in Canada - in addition to a host of other concerns. If you have thoughts on why Canada's needs sub-federal disclosure of payments by mining, oil, and gas companies to governments. It would be great if you could express those as a comment in the post we have made on data.gc.ca's idea dialogue http://data.gc.ca/eng/Transparency_Mining_Oil_Gas_Sectors. CAPP's submission can be found here: http://data.gc.ca/sites/default/files/5a-capp.pdf and all the others here: http://data.gc.ca/eng/content/comments-received-response-consultation-mandat ory-reporting-standards-extractive-sector Cheers, Claire -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of [hidden email] Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 12:00 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: CivicAccess-discuss Digest, Vol 82, Issue 13 Send CivicAccess-discuss mailing list submissions to [hidden email] To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://lists.pwd.ca/mailman/listinfo/civicaccess-discuss or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [hidden email] You can reach the person managing the list at [hidden email] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of CivicAccess-discuss digest..."
