June 25, 2013 (Ottawa): Research Data Canada (RDC) formally launches today, with a new website that includes the new Steering Committee, and action plans for each of the five RDC working groups.
As you know, one of the recommended outcomes of the 2011 Canadian Research Data Summit was the creation of RDC, which will play a leadership role and act as a national coordinating body to support research data management activities across the country, and across sectors and disciplines.
The website reflects this new focus and the broader membership and multi-disciplinary nature of the initiative. It will serve as a mechanism to share information and encourage all members of the research data community to become involved in important data issues that are paramount to Canada’s future.
Get involved - share knowledge, test ideas, gain new perspectives and make connections! The new website is just one way RDC is reaching out to the data community. We have also established five Working Groups, each focusing on an important issue related to preserving and making research data in Canada accessible.
If you would like to get involved with these groups, or contribute your perspective on their work, please get in touch. We also encourage you to join our mailing list, if you are not already on it, to ensure you are kept apprised of important RDC initiatives and events. Please feel free to distribute this notice more widely within your organization or team.
In addition, RDC has launched a successful Webinar series and we invite you to attend, to present a session, or let us know your areas of interest. These well-attended sessions are a great opportunity to learn, share your knowledge and make connections in the research data community.
See the Working with RDC section of the website for more details on the Working Groups’ plans and how you can get involved in other RDC activities.
Reminder: Save the Date On a final note, don’t forget to save the date (October 16-18) for Reconnect 2013, CASRAI’s annual international conference. RDC is co-sponsoring the BIG Data stream and there is a great line-up of panel sessions and key-note speakers.
