(Public) Public Sector Unlocking Service in the UK

Jennifer Bell
It seems that in the UK they've set up a service where a lot of people can get together to show support for getting a set of public data unlocked.

Useful!

more stuff from the UK govt:

What would you create with public information?

Ever been frustrated that you can't find out something that ought to
be easy to find?  Ever been baffled by league tables or 'performance
indicators'?  Do you think that better use of public information could
improve health, education, justice or society at large?

The UK Government wants to hear your ideas for new products that could
improve the way public information is communicated. The Power of
Information Taskforce is running a competition on the Government's
behalf, and we have a £20,000 prize fund to develop the best ideas to
the next level. You can see the type of thing we are are looking for
here.

Yes, and what's cool about that is that it's coming from someone inside the UK parliament.  Tom Steinberg of mySociety has done an amazing job so far of building bridges in the public sector.  I talked to him at a conference in June, and he said a good number of his projects were made possible through govt. funding.

As an aside, I'm shopping around a 'sponsorship opportunities' proposal for VisibleGovernment.ca that includes sponsoring a similar contest.  VisibleGovernment.ca would do all the organization, etc.

You can see the proposal here:

If you can think of any organizations (or potential private donors) I should be sending it to, let me know.

Jennifer

Offtopic, but http://longurl.org/ has a firefox extension to let you see tinyurls (by any service) before clicking on them.
