Permanent access to public records: "Dutch archives sign agreement for digital shared services organization"

"On June 15 [2010] a broad delegation of Dutch archives signed an
agreement to build a shared services organization for providing
permanent access to all Dutch digital public records. The signatories
of the agreement included the National Archives, the City Archives of
Rotterdam and Amsterdam, the union of archivists KVAN, the union of
archives BRAIN, the Regional Historic Centres, the Union of Provincial
Archive Inspectors and Digital Heritage Netherlands (DEN) (press
release in Dutch, with text of proposal).

This is a breakthrough agreement as it unites archives at all
administrative levels: national, regional and local behind a joint
plan. However, funding to the amount of M€20 over a five-year period
is yet to be secured. Much will depend on the willingness of the Dutch
Cabinet which is presently being formed to seriously address the issue
of permanent access to public records."
