Hi Tracey,

Can you explain (or give a link) on how you managed to have those contests and how Open Ottawa was able to bring the city in this ? :)

Ottawa - City app contest a big success, will cost more money to repeat

Tracey P. Lauriault
Hi Stéphane;

I did not do it but the City did.

The community of apps developers that have been a part of the Ottawa Open Data Hackfests (http://www.opendataday.org/) were instrumental at encouraging the city to do this.  They received their inspiration from other city and provincial initiatives such as in Edmonton and the BC App4ClimateChange contests, who were inspired by Contests in the US.

You can find reference to hackfests and contests here - http://datalibre.ca/links-resources/.  I try to keep this up to date.

In Ottawa, when the Council passed the motion on OpenData it included mention of a $50k contest - http://ottawa.ca/calendar/ottawa/citycouncil/csedc/2010/05-04/englishdisposition56.htm

Hope this helps
Ciao
