One
disadvantage of being a government town is that a culture of secrecy
can develop, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the City of
Ottawa's nervousness about posting municipal data online.
Other
cities make available all sorts of interesting information, which
independent computer hobbyists can then use to develop applications, or
"apps." These apps make it easier for residents, tourists or just about
anybody to take advantage of what a city has to offer. And the best part
is that the techies who design these apps do so for free, simply
because it's fun.
