Newsletter: Fall 2015 version francaise ci-bas. We’ve had a busy summer! Here’s a quick update about some of the things that we’ve been working on and what’s coming up this autumn: What we've been working on:

Federal Elections.
o
Represent. Our
Represent API
is the largest source of elected officials’ contact information and electoral districts for all levels of government in Canada. For the election, we’re collecting all candidates’ contact information and making it available through the Represent API, with some
help from volunteers to fill in the gaps. Many of Canada's largest nonprofits and unions are already using it to build informational and advocacy tools.
o
Advocacy Campaign.
ODI Toronto,
OpenDataBC, and Open North teamed up to raise awareness of open data with federal political parties during the election campaign. More than 20 organisations supported the
advocacy letter that was sent to all main party leaders. To add your organisation’s name to the letter, please contact

Citizen Budget.
o
Citizen Budget
is on the move again with Seattle, London, Victoria, Guelph, Aurora, Kelowna, Richmond Hill, Cambridge, Victoria, Prince George, Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges borough, Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Gatineau and Lloydminster as recent additions to the 40+ cities using
our powerful budget simulator to boost their budget consultations. Exciting new engagement features and an enhanced customer support package maintain Citizen Budget’s position as the most innovative and effective online simulator in the field. Stay tuned for
more major developments in the fall including a new mobile-configuration, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)-compliance and new website!

International Open Data Work.
o
Ukraine.
In June, we secured a sub-grant from
USAID to provide technical assistance to the
National Democratic Institute (NDI)’s partners in Ukraine. With
OPORA, our local partner, we’re working with
OpenAustralia to build a vote analysis website akin to
TheyVoteForYou. We’ll also be launching a Citizen Budget pilot for the City of Kiev in partnership with
SocialBoost, a Ukrainian NGO that promotes open data, civic engagement, and innovation.

International Open Data Conference (IODC).
Don’t miss

As rapporteurs of the standards stream, we were pleased to play an active role in this landmark event. What's coming up:

Legislative Monitoring.
As part of the
Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW),
Open North will be disseminating a report prepared by GeoThink researcher Paulina Marczak:
Canadian Provincial and Territorial Legislative Information: Analyzing the State of Openness.

Ma Mairie:
In the next months, we will launch a new platform that allows citizens and groups to better understand local political bodies and modalities of political participation.

Connexité.
Last but not least… Open North and
F&co are pleased to announce the upcoming launch
of a new data-driven social innovation incubator developed in the context of
Je Fais Montreal
and designed to stimulate innovation beyond the hackathon model. Stay tuned from more details about our roll-out and partners!
Announcing leadership transition at Open North

Since founding Open North four years ago, James McKinney is stepping down to pursue new opportunities. While this is a bittersweet moment for both Open
North and James, it also signals progress towards the maturation of the organization. Although James is leaving, he is not disappearing: he will be acting as senior technology adviser to the new executive director.
·
On that note,
Jean-Noé Landry, our Strategic Initiatives Director, will take over the reins as executive director. We are looking forward to Jean-Noé taking Open North to new levels, building on his extensive
international democracy development experience and active leadership in growing the open data community in Canada, including as co-founder of Montreal Ouvert and Québec Ouvert.

In June, Stéphane Guidoin joined the City of Montreal’s
Smart and Digital City Office as the Open Data Team Lead. We are excited to witness the impact he can make from within government.

Bulletin d’information : Automne 2015 Quel été occupé! Voici un résumé rapide de ce que nous avons fait cet été et de ce qui s’en vient cet automne. Ce qui nous a tenu occupés :

Élections fédérales.
o
Represent.
Notre
API Represent est la plus grande source
d'information de contact des élus et des circonscriptions électorales à tous les niveaux de gouvernement au Canada. Pour l'élection, nous recueillons les informations de contact de tous les candidats pour les rendre disponibles via l'API Représente avec l'aide
de bénévoles pour combler les lacunes. Quelques-uns des plus grands syndicats et organismes sans but lucratif au Canada l’utilisent déjà pour construire des outils informationnels et de plaidoyer.
o
Militantisme.
ODI Toronto,
OpenDataBC et Nord Ouvert ont fait équipe pour mener une campagne de sensibilisation sur l’importance des données ouvertes auprès des partis politiques fédéraux durant les élections. Plus de 20 organisations du milieu des données ouvertes ont soutenu
la lettre que nous avons envoyée à tous les chefs des principaux partis politiques! Si vous désirez ajouter le nom de votre organisation à la lettre, veuillez contacter

Budget Citoyen.
o
Ça roule du côté de
Budget Citoyen! Les villes de
Seattle, Londres, Victoria, Guelph, Aurora, Kelowna, Richmond Hill, Cambridge, Victoria, Prince George, l’arrondissement de Côte-des-Neiges à Montréal, Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Gatineau et Lloydminster se sont ajoutées aux 40 villes
et plus qui utilisent notre puissant simulateur budgétaire pour renforcer leurs consultations. De nouvelles fonctionnalités d’engagement et un programme de soutien à la clientèle amélioré font de Budget Citoyen le simulateur le plus novateur et efficace en
ligne dans le domaine. Nous annoncerons des améliorations importantes cet automne, y compris une nouvelle configuration mobile,
la mise en conformité de notre outil avec la loi sur l’Accessibilité pour les personnes handicapées de l’Ontario, et un nouveau site web!

Travail international sur les données ouvertes.
o
Ukraine.
En juin, nous avons obtenu une subvention de l’USAID pour offrir de l’assistance technique aux partenaires du

Après avoir fondé Nord Ouvert il y a quatre ans, James McKinney tire sa révérence pour poursuivre de nouveaux défis. Bien que ce soit un moment doux-amer
autant pour James que pour Nord Ouvert, c’est aussi le signe d’un progrès important vers l’arrivée à maturité de l’organisation. Si James nous quitte, il ne disparaît pas : il agira comme conseiller technologique principal auprès du nouveau directeur exécutif.
·
Sur cette note,
Jean-Noé Landry, notre directeur des initiatives stratégiques, prend les rênes en tant que directeur exécutif. Nous avons très hâte que Jean-Noé amène Nord Ouvert vers de nouveaux horizons,
en se basant sur son importante expérience internationale et son leadership au Canada au sein de la communauté des données ouvertes, notamment à titre de co-fondateur de Montréal Ouvert et de Québec Ouvert.
·
En juin, Stéphane Guidoin a rejoint le
Bureau de la ville intelligente et numérique de la Ville de Montréal en tant que conseiller données ouvertes; il est excitant d’être témoin des impacts qu’il peut avoir de l’intérieur du gouvernement.
·
