Open data vs science

Tracey P. Lauriault
how do we resolve our support of open data when the government is dismantling science, the census and the CBC.  That is hardly open government! http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/blog/federal-programs-and-research-facilities-that-have-been-shut-down-or-had-th

BTW:  If this is part of a campaign, I recommend not including the CBC in the discussion.   The support for science and evidence for democracy crosses political boundaries, but the CBC is quickly loosing support across the spectrum.  Lumping these unrelated issues together puts the discussion into the wrong political category (People who don't want to reduce government spending/waste).
