As the President emphasized in his speech at the National Academy of Sciences annual meeting on April 27, it is important to “ensure that federal policies are based on the best and most unbiased scientific information.” The National Academies Board on Research Data and Information (http://www.nas.edu/brdi) will hold a public symposium on “Scientific Data for Evidence Based Policy and Decision Making” on the afternoon of Thursday, September 24, 2009 to provide a more detailed understanding of the policies and programs of the current Administration that support this policy priority. This symposium will feature presentations by high-level Administration officials on: * the use of scientific data in federal regulations and policymaking, * new mechanisms for public access to federal data, and * examples of high-value applications of scientific data for drug approval and for environmental policy and decision making.
