Nature News: US launches eco-network
"Ambitious project to systematically monitor the environment on a
continental scale is finally ready to break ground."
http://www.nature.com/news/2011/110810/full/476135a.htmlDoes anyone know if anything similar might be happening on the
Canadian side of the border (esp. given the recent Environment Canada
layoff announcements).
Fifteen years ago I did some consulting for EMAN (Ecological
Monitoring and Assessment Network) but it doesn't seem to be to very
large or active these days.
http://www.on.ec.gc.ca/eman/index.cfm http://www.ec.gc.ca/faunescience-wildlifescience/default.asp?lang=En&n=B0D89DF1-1Related: the EMAN page indicates "We are transitioning the data housed
in the EMAN Data Management System to a repository. EMAN partners who
have data in the Data Management System will be able to access and
download their data from the system until August 12, 2011. You can
quickly download your data by logging and pressing "View/add/edit my
data" then pressing "download" for the files you wish to save."
Does anyone know what repository software they are using? Any chance
they are using one of the amazing Open Source projects, such as Fedora
(
http://fedora-commons.org/), DSpace (
http://www.dspace.org/), ePrints
(
http://www.eprints.org/), Archimedes
(
http://www.bibl.ulaval.ca/archimede/index.en.html) or perhaps
DuraCloud (
http://www.duracloud.org/).
I will be very sad if someone tells me they are using SharePoint.... :-(
Thanks,
Glen Newton
