Mass Shooting Data and Maps in the News

As you know there has been another mass shooting in the US.  Obama's press conference speech on the matter will hopefully lead to change, especially a change in laws, and so I went looking for a few data laden news feeds on the topic .

Below are the few pieces I found.  Data and maps are showing up in all forms of journalism and in popular media, and sure wish there could be more critical reflection on the definitions, methods and geographical representations., and of course data archives.

• Washington Post (2012) Graph of the day: Perhaps mass shootings aren’t becoming more common (note the debate on definitions of Mother Jones Data vs FBI Analysis and a Congressional report). 
  
• The Telegraph also has a live feed Oregon shooting: Army veteran survives after being shot charging at British gunman as 'first victims named' - live which includes a map, without a reference to the data used to create it.  I have sent them a note to find out what they used.
