List problems - Open Data Lists Infor

Tracey P. Lauriault
I my case Karl, I do not receive the mail I send out so I just assumed all was normal and summer was quiet.  Thanks for getting me on it.

This is the Canadian list and some pretty good info and good discussions comes through, and like all good lists it is a collective thing and I look forward to more conversations and good material.

Our Friends in Québec are doing lots of good work and their province is picking up on some of the initiatives.  The open source community has made much headway with the Province opening up procurement, they also have the largest alliance of community wireless groups with Ile Sans Fils and Zap Québec with over 10 000 members.  I expect to hear something soon from the City of Montreal on Open Data as their task force report should be due anytime soon while Montreal Ouvert is hosting an open data dinner and their members have launched some great new projects.

Gtec (http://www.gtec.ca/) is coming to Ottawa again and it looks like the G4+1 Cities will be in town and the Open Data Ottawa folks are organizing a social - stay tuned.  Research Data Canada (Glen & Richard) will be having a big meeting on the fate of scientific data and big data shortly as well.  I also heard that one of the founding members of GeoConnections was seconded to the Treasury Board data.gc.ca initiative, and I hope he can make it as great at GeoBase and GeoGratis.

Of course BC has launched the first provincial initiative and that is great, while in Ottawa, public health and open data are talking and there is an expectation that there will be many more social groups involved and with a 1/2 fte dedicated to the job now we will see more.

All in all, things have really been moving since 2005 when this list was founded and I am certain many more things too.

Cheers
Tracey

PS - J'aimerais voir beaucoup plus de messages en français, donc les amis francophones n'hésités pas de partager en français et sa me fera plaisir de traduire.

:) the strange behavior is that none of us raised his/her eyebrows of not receiving a message from the list since August 4. I sent an email two days ago two the list and then was surprised to not receive my own emails. So I asked tracey about it ;) And mailman was crashed.

Tell us a bit how information structures are easily forgotten without us noticing.
