Hi all,
I found this story about a case launched the US government to amend the Computer Fraud and Abuses Act (FCAA) by ACLU, four academics and the owners of the Intercept. Dr. Sandvig has been a leader in studying biases in algorithms and he argues the CFAA has made
his research is illegal.
Here is Dr. Sandvig's post about the case: https://socialmediacollective.org/2016/07/01/why-i-am-suing-the-government/
See the Atlantic coverage: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2016/07/when-should-hacking-be-legal/489785/
I think its a pretty major case in the US and I'm curious about what people think of the Canadian context. Does Canada have equivalent laws? Is this a case that could intervene in the Open Data review?
