If San Francisco Crime were Elevation - open crime data

Tracey P. Lauriault

If San Francisco Crime were Elevation

This is a very cool way to visualize data!  Something similar was done using French and English as the variables in the 70s between Ottawa and hull.  It was clear that there were huge language peaks and valleys, some insurmountable, almost as steep as 90 cliffs and back in the day, it probably felt that way too.

Yes indeed. Very cool visualization.

Though there is one thing which bothers me. These visualizations are used for crime, more than cool things happening in the city. It is useful to record crime, but it is also useful to make a positive assessment about what are the awesome things that are happening.
It might often show our way to interact with the cities and people around us.
We record issues, annoyances, more than things which make us happy.

:) What are the San Francisco hills of planted trees. ;)

Good point!

It also tells us about the stuff we are preoccupied with, as that is what data are collected.
