Tracey - Thank you for your note pointing to the on-line text of the document titled The Dissemination of Government Geographic Data in Canada - Guide to Best Practices highlighting that section 4.3.4 Provincial/Territorial Statutory and Policy Constraints on Disposition of Crown Intellectual Property is incomplete.

Unfortunately, Version 1.2 of the "Best Practices Guide" (published in Winter 2005 as available on the website) was never completed with input from CCOG.

A new version of the "Best Practices Guide" (Version 2.0) will be available in the next couple of weeks.  Version 2.0 does not include any information with respect to provincial and territorial statutes or policies so unfortunately I cannot assist you with any Province of Ontario information.

Version 2 is an update of Version 1.2 to include some of the changes in technologies and licensing of federal government geographic data that has transpired since Version 1.2. A Working Group comprised of representatives from several federal agencies, provincial governments, industry and the Department of Justice Canada have spent the past 2 years updating the document and multiple license templates that are included.

I suggest that this version of the Best Practices Guide will be an excellent tool for persons interested in licensing of federal geomatics data including copyright and IP clauses.

The intention of the Working Group is to use the Info-GeoConnections email bulletin service to notify the community of the on-line release of Version 2.0 of The Dissemination of Government Geographic Data in Canada - Guide to Best Practices through the Geo-Connections website. I assume you receive these bulletins as a subscriber, but if not, please visit http://www.geoconnections.org/en/subscribeForm so that you do not miss first notice of the release of Version 2.0.

I hope this is helpful.

Best regards

Greetings Jeannine;

I was reading over the THE DISSEMINATION OF GOVERNMENT GEOGRAPHIC DATA IN CANADA GUIDE TO BEST PRACTICES (http://www.geoconnections.org/publications/Best_practices_guide/html/toc_e.html).  I was looking for information regarding the Province of Ontario and discovered that the following section was incomplete.  Do you know if there has been any follow-up from CCOG's working group?  Also, is there a federal expert or working group that citizens can consult regarding geomatics licensing, copyright, IP etc.?

4.3.4    Provincial/Territorial Statutory and Policy Constraints on Disposition of Crown Intellectual Property

[TO COMPLETE WITH INPUT FROM CCOG WORKING GROUP]

Sincerely
Tracey
