Ada Lovelace Day

Hi there

With just a week until Ada Lovelace Day, the countdown has well and truly begun. We now have 21 events listed worldwide, with more still coming in. Tickets for Ada Lovelace Day Live! are selling like hot cakes, and we’re delighted to announce our final speaker has been confirmed. We’re also hearing about more really cool projects to support women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) that we’d like to tell you about.

Introducing Tracy King
The final addition to our Ada Lovelace Day Live! line-up has at last been confirmed: Tracy King is a producer, writer and consultant and runs an animation and game development company. She produced Tim Minchin's Storm - The Movie, two TAM Londons, and has a column on gaming culture in Custom PC Magazine. Tracy will take a look at the the media myths and monsters around internet and gaming culture.

If you haven’t yet got your tickets, book now using the code ALDFriend and get them half-price, just £5!

Ada Lovelace Day fundraiser
Only five days to go before our fundraiser closes! If you have a spare fiver, chuck it our way to help us continue our work. There are some fantastic perks for backers, including a 24 piece toolset which would make a perfect Christmas present for your daughter/sister/niece/aunt/mother, VIP tickets to Ada Lovelace Day Live, a tour of the IET, including a viewing of Ada Lovelace’s letters and portrait, and more!

Science Grrls calendar goes on sale 19 October
Science Grrls are raising the profile of female scientists by creating a high-quality calendar to showcase real women doing great science. The money raised will be invested in projects that help girls and young women engage with STEM role models.

The calendar will be available from 19 October at the Science Museum, London, and the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester, as well as online. They will cost £12 (+p&p when bought online).

Ada Initiative fundraiser
Our similarly-named sisters across the pond in America are running their own fundraiser at the moment to increase the participation of women in open technology and culture. So if you have another spare fiver, chuck it their way!

LogicGrrrl event in Edinburgh, March 2013
Lynsey-Jane Gray is organising LogicGrrrl, an event to raise the profile of women in women in science, skepticism, the media and arts. If you are interested either in speaking or in helping shape the event, you can get in touch with Lynsey-Jane via her site.
