Thanks mike. I should be less sacastic and use less acronyms for sure. I was referring to Open Government within the context of legislated acts that require good data such as the OP (official plans) that guides local urban planning. We lost data on the long formk, and now good research and data to help inform such local govt planning. Cheers

As an FYI we don't discuss open government too much in this list. We're pretty focused on open data. Not that comments about open government are unwelcome. They're just infrequent.

In terms of understanding the relationships between the production, distribution, and use of data, the folks on this list are pretty savvy. You can read through some of the archives in order to verify that. Don't worry about having to dumb it down that much for us ;-)

I'm afraid I have no clue to what OP refers to in this context. Maybe I need more coffee....

The Metropolis Projects are a really important initiative for Canada, cities are in many respects the drivers of the Canadian Economy, along of course with all the resource based communities in the country, and because of the divisions of power there was no easy way to gain knowledge of cities in a concerted 'national' way due to jurisdictional issues.  There are some national think tanks in Canada, but none who could really do this kind of work in a long-term integrated way.  This is on par with cutting CPRN and CISTI.

 

These networks were big data users, analysts and data producers.
