Dear List:
Some of the problems I come across involve international relationships. Note that the pre-publication report from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, Committee on
Understanding the Global Public Health Implications of Substandard,
Falsified, and Counterfeit Medical Products; Board on Global Health; Countering the Problem of Falsified and Substandard Drugs, is a good example and is a free download <http://www.iom.edu/Reports/2013/Countering-the-Problem-of-Falsified-and-Substandard-Drugs.aspx>. It's worth reading the summary and recommendations, if nothing else. The solutions must be local and global.
Problems with food safety will also require some international cooperation. Note that food safety is one of the areas identified this week, again, by U.S. Government Accountability Organization, High-Risk Series: An Update, February 2013. Free download <http://www.gao.gov/assets/660/652133.pdf>.
Note that the National Academies produces a huge range of studies and books on specific topics and all their studies are available for free downloads, as are the GAO reports. There are no citizenship or geographical restrictions for access and downloading, but you do have to create an account or sign in as a guest.
I don't know if Canada has the same accessibility to their studies and books so let me know if they do. Finally, for testing for different bacteria, etc., PLEX-ID, made by Abbott, may be a quick, but still expensive approach. <http://www.ibisbiosciences.com/index.html>

Dwight! re
" I don't know if Canada has the same accessibility to their studies and books so let me know if they do." We dream of having a science foundation, documents on the topics being published by it, and then making them accessible to us! We are not there! :( Cheers t On Fri, Feb 15, 2013 at 1:45 PM, Dwight Hines <[hidden email]> wrote: > Dear List: > > Some of the problems I come across involve international relationships. > Note that the pre-publication report from the U.S. National Academy of > Sciences, Institute of Medicine, Committee on Understanding the Global > Public Health Implications of Substandard, Falsified, and Counterfeit > Medical Products; Board on Global Health; Countering the Problem of > Falsified and Substandard Drugs, is a good example and is a free download > <http://www.iom.edu/Reports/2013/Countering-the-Problem-of-Falsified-and-Substandard-Drugs.aspx>. > It's worth reading the summary and recommendations, if nothing else.
