Follow up on the Canada post story

Tracey P. Lauriault
Karl, JN and Ted, the ideas you shared were excellent.

I do not know where to take this from here, but to emulate Karl's list of To DOs this is what I see:

a) What was the econometric algorithm used
b) What were the data sources for that analysis
c) Who is the Genesis Public Opinion Research Inc? And what kind of questions did they ask?
d) Are there other beneficiaries to this change by CP?
e) I now have a better understanding why they are selling the Postal Code data and are guarding it.  How much money does CP make on the sale of the Postal Code data to direct marketers and data analytical shops?
f) Who are CPs clients on the Digital Delivery Network, we know that Pitney and Bowes, because the CEO was their president, who else?
g) Is it a conflict of interest for the CP CEO to outsources CP services to a company he was once the president of?
h) What are this CEOs political orientations, was he appointed by He Who shall not be Named? Lord H...., if so, are the leaders of other Tory companies benefiting from this?
i) Is there a direct marketing lobby by data analytical shops and direct mail service shops?
j) well, if i) is true, could they have also been the shops who have most to gain by the earlier cancelation of the census, as they now may stand to win with more data producing contracts for the gov.  The list of big shops on the standing order is quite impressive - http://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/rop-por/fournisseurs-firms-eng.html, these are polling shops, but also geodemographic and big data shops!

Any one want to do a dataviz? Can anyone take this any further?

I was stirring all night!

Cheers
t

Re: Follow up on the Canada post story

Ted Strauss
Hi Tracy,
I posted a comment on the conf board page asking them to release the polling data they used.
Gensis polling appears to be a one-man operation, without almost no footprint on the web, except Dave Crapper's linkedin page.
I would be happy to make a data viz, but we don't have access to the data do we?
Did you have something specific in mind?

Re: Follow up on the Canada post story

Tracey P. Lauriault
I was thinking of a story board sorta viz

who is related to who, soemthing tells me there is way more to this story than we know, and I have a hunch, that my new boss does not think is far fetched, that this big data/data analytics/geodemographic/direct marketing corps are lobbying, and that they may also be behind the cancellation of the census, as they stand to gain should data suddenly be required.

Also, I am trying to find someone who can tell  me how the polling data samples and methods, if they can be extrapolated to the scale tyhat they were!  I just don't think that leap can be made.

But my stats kn is not at a high enough of a level to know that.

Also, I am really glad you asked for the data, I think it would be hard if I did at this point.

Cheers
