Federal election candidates database

James McKinney
Hello all,

I thought I'd point you to a project I completed recently for the Montreal Gazette that provides demographic data on all candidates, along with photos and contact/social media info.

Compiling this data included scraping 3000+ pages from political parties, Wikipedia, etc. and I am confident that it is the most accurate and complete source for the sort of data it provides on candidates (I've noticed errors in others' lists along the way). In particular, I have the gender of every candidate, and you can choose to view a map of the distribution of female candidates across the country.

I hope you take a look and find it useful.

Cheers,

James
