I wish someone from democracy watch had talked to this list first. I'm
not 100% confident but I don't know that the plans had to be shared at
this meeting. There is another meeting in brazil in April where I
believe they do have to be shared.

Re: Federal Conservatives break all of their international Open Government Partnership commitments by failing to consult with Canadians about their draft action plan before meeting in Brazil this week

Herb Lainchbury
The draft is supposed to be presented at the Dec 2011 meeting and the final document is supposed to be delivered in March 2012.

I think their point is that the government was supposed to undertake broad public consultation soon after they expressed their intent to join OGP.  Which, as far as I know, did not happen.

Re: Federal Conservatives break all of their international Open Government Partnership commitments by failing to consult with Canadians about their draft action plan before meeting in Brazil this week

David Eaves
Yes, there is nothing in that document that says you must have done your consultation. It says come prepared to share, but it is not required. The deadline is the next meeting. I don't mind holding the governments feet to the fire, but to preserve credibility Of being a critic it is essential to be accurate. Accusing the government of failing on its commitments is a serious charge. I'm happy to say they should have done the consultation by now, but claiming they have failed the agreement is incorrect. I want to ensure that we advocates have maximum credibility.
