Dear Colleague
You are warmly invited to a one day conference to be held in London on
Monday the 11th July 2011. This ESRC supported event will highlight the
power of administrative data and the strengths and limitations of such
data for research purposes.
The conference will cover both innovative research that has used
administrative data, (with examples from the fields of education,
deprivation and welfare) and innovative methods for using administrative
data (including Bayesian approaches to combining data, capture-recapture
methods and immigration estimation).
The conference will also explore new mechanisms for accessing
administrative data (such as HMRC’s new data laboratory and the Secure
Data Service) and discuss the future for administrative data in research,
with views from the government and academia.
Speakers include Mike Brewer (Professor of Economics, University of
Essex), Simon Burgess (Professor of Economics, University of Bristol),
Nicky Best (Professor of Statistics and Epidemiology, Imperial College),
Kieron O’Hara (Head of the recent Cabinet Office Transparency and Privacy

Andrews).
