Canada Immigration - Country of Origin by Province

Karl Dubost
Hi,

I was looking for a map/infography of Canadian Immigration these last few years showing the distribution of country origin for the recent immigrants for each Canadian provinces. Something that would show that people in Vancouver are more from x and y countries when people in Toronto come from, etc.

Someone knows something similar?

Carl if you looking for the whole country and just provinces and
territories this should do.

You will note there are many ways to understand immigrant, the
metadata and definitions should help you decide what is best for
whatever it is you are doing.

http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/auth/english/maps/peopleandsociety/immigration

The Atlas of Canada is a great resource, it is created in open source
and is OGC compatible.  It was the world's first national atlas that
was open source and one of the first to be online.

If you are looking for more info let me know.

Cheers
t

This is what I was looking for.
The breakdown by country origins of new migrants by location in Canada.
The migration is not the same depending on the province.

From 2001 to 2006, from biggest to less important the top 5

Canada: China, India, Philippines, Pakistan, USA(!?)

NL: UK, USA, China, Pakistan, Colombia
PE: USA, UK, Colombia, New-Zealand, South-Korea
NS: USA, China, UK, Egypt, India
NB: USA, China, South Korea, UK, Iran
QC: China, Algeria, France, Morocco, Romania
ON: India, China, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka
MA: Philippines, India, Germany, China, Russian Federation
SA: China, USA, UK, Philippines, Sudan
AL: China, Philippines, India, Pakistan, USA
BC: China, India, Philippines, South Korea, USA
YU: USA, Philippines, Germany, UK, China
NT: Philippines, Ghana, USA, Vietnam, China

Re: Canada Immigration - Country of Origin by Province

Tracey P. Lauriault
ok!  You are looking for granularity.

The next best way is to go to the statcan site and get the data by
province and make your own map
(http://www12.statcan.ca/census-recensement/2006/rt-td/immcit-eng.cfm).

Generally though you will not get it that fine.  If you are connected
to a university you can get refined data from the data liberation
initiative - http://www.statcan.gc.ca/dli-ild/dli-idd-eng.htm

The Atlas maps are distributed and you can get the base maps from here
if you want to make your own thing - http://www.geobase.ca/
