Just before Christmas, the Sunlight Foundation launched an 'Apps for America' contest. To enter, you have to create a contest using one of their data APIs.
What politically-themed APIs are available in Canada that could be used for a similar contest? At VisibleGovernment.ca, we've been working building travel and hospitality expense database/feeds, which, as a side-effect, produces civil service HR data that can be used for org charts. I also know that Michael has perfected a parliamentary vote-scraping feed. What other Canadian political data APIs are out there? Jennifer,
There's data about federally funded research at SSHRC, NSERC, CIHR http://www.outil.ost.uqam.ca/CRSH/RechProj.aspx?vLangue=Anglais http://www.outil.ost.uqam.ca/crsng/Outil.aspx?Langue=Anglais http://webapps.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/funding/Search?p_language=E&p_version=CIHR These databases must have documented API's -- someone had to developed these search engines. Does anyone know if there are more federal funding programs that list competition results on-line? Mark |

I was going to cheat and simply provide a feed of parliamentarians and their vitals, gather feedback, and then repeat... but could go for votes, quotes, et al i guess :) Cheers, Cory. |

Thanks Mark ~
Wouldn't it be grand if each one of these awards, when completed, linked to fulltext of any resulting articles and data sets? best, Heather Morrison Any opinion expressed in this e-mail is that of the author alone, and does not represent the opinion or policy of BC Electronic Library Network or Simon Fraser University Library. Well, to start... some simple dumps of what people most often are looking for: http://www.howdtheyvote.ca/data.php and some experimental rss feeds: http://www.howdtheyvote.ca/rss-info.php technically neither are an API... but frankly all we care about is getting data, right? Listing of Canadian charities. I would be interested in being able to find out more. And I from what I understand that Canadian charity law is kinda broke (at least in terms of the justifications for gaining status being really out of date). I wonder what this data would say if it were more available to query.
