BC First Nations Economic Development Database

Herb Lainchbury
Hi all,

A new database has been developed in BC that is intended to BC First Nations economic development data easily accessible and available as open data.

Some of this data is collected from BC and Federal Government open data datasets, and some  is data collected directly from first nations communities and businesses.

The database is entering a beta test phase, opening up the database to anyone who would like to review and explore the data.

Note: while in beta test the system requires a userid / password which can be obtained by emailing [hidden email].

I am a member of the team who developed the system, and we are very interested in your feedback about the database.  Feedback can be sent to [hidden email].

I've attached the official invitation from the team.

Good Morning,

I'm writing to invite you to be part of a beta test phase of the First Nations Economic Development Database.

Initiated by the Aboriginal Business and Investment Council of BC, the First Nations Economic Development Database provides a single source of factual information about economic initiatives involving BC First Nations with a user-friendly and searchable interface.

The First Nations Economic Development Database is intended to serve specific purposes in the BC economy, including:
  • Connecting BC businesses with existing business capacity in BC First Nations;
  • Providing First Nations with a planning tool for their economic development objectives;
  • Creating data for governments to better understand the changing landscape of First Nations business capacity to target services such as skills training.

We invite you to try out the First Nations Economic Development Database beta test site by, first obtaining a password by clicking at [hidden email] and then accessing the website at  www.fnedd.ca.

Please feel free to share this link with other investors, businesses, business associations, academic institutions, local governments, and First Nations – anyone who you feel may benefit from using the First Nations Economic Development Database.

We need your feedback on this product.  For example, is it easy to use?  Is it helpful to your line of work?  All comments and suggestions are welcome.  Please email them to [hidden email].

When the beta testing of the First Nations Economic Development Database is complete and user testing feedback is incorporated, we will look to launch the First Nations Economic Development Database publicly in fall 2014.

We appreciate your interest.

Regards,
