This is a wonderful example of using administrative data, combined with solid research methodology and cartographic display techniques to explain the variables and demonstrate the findings. This is the kind of work I hope we will be able to see more of in Canada if data become accessible. At the moment, in Canada no one is able to put something like this together as the data are either inacessible or incredibly expensive.
It is not your hope and aspirations that matter but where you get your care that matters.
For more than 20 years, the Dartmouth Atlas Project has documented
glaring variations in how medical resources are distributed and used in
the United States. The project uses Medicare data to provide information
and analysis about national, regional, and local markets, as well as
hospitals and their affiliated physicians. This research has helped
policymakers, the media, health care analysts and others improve their
understanding of our health care system and forms the foundation for
many of the ongoing efforts to improve health and health systems across
America.
