I was speaking at a conference (World Social Sciences Forum 2013) in Montreal yesterday, and one of the speakers on my panel -- a Canadian
-- interrupted answering a question after learning the questioner was Brazilian to apologise to that person for the spying by Canada on her country (our topic had nothing to do with spying or espionage).
I was both proud and embarrassed.
Sigh.
