hi folks:
Of interest for any west-coasters, that the Museum of Vancouver has invited Anthony Townsend for a talk tomorrow, Friday April 8. He'll be joined by City Councillor Andrea Reimer, who has championed much of Vancouver's open data energy. Should be interesting.
Cheers,
Hanna

Townsend explores the connections
between technology, urbanism and innovation and will be speaking about his
research funded by the Rockefeller Foundation: “A PLANET OF CIVIC LABORATORIES:
The Future of Cities, Information and Inclusion”. His research explores the
rising need to harness information to improve government services and alleviate
poverty and inequality. Townsend asks:
What economic
opportunities will urban information provide to excluded
groups?
What new exclusions
might arise from new kinds of data about the city and its
citizens?
How will communities
leverage urban information to improve service delivery, transparency,
and
citizen
engagement?
Vancouver City
Councilor Andrea Reimer will join Townsend in conversation following his
talk.
Reception to follow. Tickets are
$10.
