I was asked if I found any resources related to some earlier discussion threads on the topic of abortions and data. And I did as follows. Now all I need is time to dig through this stuff:
CIHI The CIHI information that the National Post used for its graphic is available on the Quick Stats section of our website at cihi.ca. Please follow this link to the relevant tables for 2007 through 2010: http://www.cihi.ca/cihi-ext-portal/internet/en/quick_stats/quick+stats/quick_stats_main?xQSType=Pre-formatted%20Table&xTopic=Hospital%20Care&pageNumber=5&resultCount=4&filterTypeBy=1&filterTopicBy=5&autorefresh=1. (If that does not work, please try searching “abortion”, and click on the first result. You can then select the link on the page you are sent to.) These tables include notes and other information that may answer your questions. You may find Table 2 of each year of special interest because it breaks down the information by age. It may be useful to keep in mind when reviewing them, however, that clinics submit information to CIHI on a voluntary basis as noted in the document. Because submission is voluntary, the information is not as detailed as what we are mandated to receive from hospitals. For this reason, some information is only available for hospital-based abortions. Regarding miscarriages, they are classified differently so are not included in the data; we only include induced abortions.
Quick Stats also has childbirth indicators (though not pregnancy numbers per se). In case those are of interest, they are here: http://www.cihi.ca/CIHI-ext-portal/internet/EN/Quick_Stats/quick+stats/quick_stats_main?xQSType=Interactive Data&xTopic=Hospital Care&pageNumber=1&resultCount=10&filterTypeBy=2&filterTopicBy=5&autorefresh=1.
